Talking with a family member about assisted living needs and the possibility of moving to an assisted living facility can be a really emotional and sensitive topic to bring up. Approaching the conversation the right way can make all the difference. Sometimes having help from experts with assisted living placement services can answer questions everyone involved might have, while also ensuring that seniors find the right assisted living community for their needs.
Start the Conversation Early
The best time to talk about assisted living needs is before a crisis happens. Early talks give everyone a chance to come to terms with the idea and to make thoughtful decisions after seeking out facts. Choosing a calm, private setting to have those first few conversations can really help. Using open-ended questions and a gentle, respectful tone also makes a big difference.
Focus on the Benefits of Assisted Living
Sometimes seniors hear the words “assisted living” and they immediately shut down. What can really help is to highlight the benefits of this type of living situation. Seniors get the support that they need, increased social opportunities, and an environment guaranteed to be safe. Patients at assisted living centers get personalized care that’s tailored specifically to their needs. That’s really important when seniors are first considering the move to assisted living.
Bring in Professionals to Help
Assisted living placement services offer expert help in understanding and talking about assisted living communities and their amenities. These professionals can help to conduct assessments to determine the senior’s needs and they can also offer information about the different communities in the area. They can be instrumental in offering a neutral, third-party viewpoint about this crucial decision.
Address Concerns and Misconceptions
There’s a lot to consider with a senior making the move to assisted living. There are questions, considerations, and some myths about assisted living to work through. Assisted living placement experts can help with all of that as they demystify the process and help families get the answers they need the most.
Encourage Seniors to Participate
One of the most important steps in the process is to ensure that seniors remain involved in the process of making all of the decisions. They need to feel as if their preferences and needs are being included in every phase of the process and that their input is being taken seriously. Researching and visiting facilities together and reviewing options as a group is equally important.
Offer Continuing Support
Even after the decision on a specific assisted living facility is made, there are still ways that seniors need support transitioning. The move is a big one, and placement experts can be instrumental in making sure that seniors fit in well and are happy with their choices. It’s all about helping seniors to be as comfortable and happy as possible.
Opening up this type of conversation is so much easier with the expert help that assisted living placement experts can provide. They help ease families through the process, helping them find the best possible solution for the seniors they love.

There is no greater thrill for me than walking into a room and seeing a senior’s eyes light up with true joy and excitement. I do this because I love seeing their big smiles and enjoy making each of them feel special. People often say you should do a job that you love so much it does not feel like work. I truly feel that this is my calling. There is no greater job for me than making connections with seniors and their loved ones.
I have been helping families find their loved ones the senior care that they need for more than 10 years. Their families find comfort knowing that I am always available for their call 7 days a week. They know that they can reach out to me anytime and I will take care of anything they may need.
I value the importance of checking in on and continuing to visit your loved ones even after they are placed in a community. In fact, I still visit some of the first seniors that I helped find care for nearly 10 years later. I love to take pictures with them to share with their families.
I was born and raised in Wisconsin and have been living in Arizona for the last 20 years. Since moving to Arizona, I have had the opportunity to work at 3 different senior living communities in the Valley. During that time, I have been able to help over 1,000 seniors and their families. I have enjoyed meeting with each family and understanding their senior’s unique needs to ensure that their family member finds the best suited community.
In the past, I was sad that the community I worked for was not always the one they chose, but now I am excited to use my expertise to represent the seniors and help find the perfect fit for their loved ones. Therefore, I created my own placement company with a FREE no cost service so I can help guide each family I come in contact with through this process.
My goal is to make this process as easy and simple as I can. When I am not working directly with seniors, I am out touring new communities, networking with others in the industry, and volunteering in order to locate the best communities to fit each senior’s needs and budget. This helps me understand what each community has to offer and what sets them apart from the others.
I am also continuing to build my vendor contacts referral system. This allows me to provide quick solutions and abundant resources for whatever a family may need. This includes in-home care, hospital beds, durable medical equipment and much more.
